The 2012 Oscar Mike Organizing Committee Communiqué
We have largely discussed the need to name the reasons for our disassociation from this. The reason why we are
doing it now, is the fact that we don’t like others to speak for us and we are tired of being called mercenaries
and ungrateful.
All things described here can be proved with the proper documentation.
Immediately after the elections for all seats in the Associação Lusitana de Airsoft - APD (ALA), July 31st 2011,
the first meeting for these members was held at the Lourinhã Fire Department Facilities.
In that same meeting, Rodrigo Loureiro (kaiser) presents a motion to support the Marines Force Recon (team) to
organize an International Ground Zero. That proposition was refused by the member Pedro Caldeira (Caldeira) for
the fact that the Marines Force Recon were legally irrelevant, and only an institution like ALA could materialize
such endeavor.
With that in mind, a proposition was presented by Pedro Caldeira to the ALA Board of Directors, consisting of the
creation of an International Events Brand with a structure never before seen in Portugal. An Organizing Committee
was created involving the following members: Pedro Caldeira (Caldeira), Rui Pires (Penaleve),
Filipe Mamede (Godddam), Mauro Tavares Van Eck (Ox), Carlos Viana (NocomplY) e Paulo Flor (Flor).
To ensure some trust to ALA, this O.C. guaranteed that their expenses wouldn’t be included in the budget taking
all that risk personally. However, in the event of an out coming profit, this would revert to cover those expenses
of the O.C.
We compromised in this way, with this risk, because we wanted to do something different, professional and that it
would show the Country our organizing skills and resolve.
Proposition was accepted, we started working, we developed contacts and for 8 months this O.C. worked with the
effort of creating a Brand for ALA. A Brand that today they own and that has a hard to calculate market weight
and value, we created that Brand because we believed in that project. Today, We look back and think of what we
achieved with ALA, but, being objective and straight, theses 6 people spent an undefined number of working hours
FOR ALA, created a Brand, Designed a new image for a renovated and lively ALA, optimizing what was already done
giving it shape and strength. As we can verify by the ALA internal regulations, the creation of new documents for
foreign players, several expenses were made of our own money, expenses way over superior to any value that could
outcome from the event's profit, we put aside our families and friends to ALA's benefit, we did everything in
ALA's benefit and of this Sport that we LOVE!
Oscar Mike 2012 took place in April 2012, Moledo Lourinhã, this is our aftermath:
- 573 athletes;
- 3 Airsoft (Team tactical game, practical shooting and reenactment);
- 3 Sports Promotion Associations, united;
- PSP - DAEXP ,police (guns and explosives dep.) presence at the event, this permitted great contacts and the
Demystification of opinions on both sides;
- Airsoft shops together in great number;
- Support and sponsorship never before managed;
- Means never before used;
- Highest level of Institutions involved;
- Local Population in awe with the presence of the event;
- 7500 worth of Social Impact;
- Environmental Impact: 400 trees planted;
- The Involvement with Entities Extra-Airsoft;
- The first ever Legal Event in Portugal, with all the permits, authorizations and insurance for every athlete
enrolled;
- 3 International Airsoft Magazines present;
'
We knew and still know that many things weren't there or failed, nothing is perfect and this game was far from
it, however many of the read aftermaths made us think if all that work was really worth it...
More, like anything in life, this Event was a strength drainer, for the O.C., for the Staff at the Event, for ALA
and as expected fatigue and stress led to some situations that created a pit between the O.C. and the directors
of ALA.
The accounts were closed and calculations made, Oscar Mike 2012 presented a profit margin of 3,600.00€, therefore
each member of the O.C. should get 600.00€, what a cold shower, the O.C. Coordinator alone had expenses that
mounted up to 1447.00€ (gas, tolls and phone communications alone).
However the cold shower didn’t end there, the commitment made by ALA to the "Associação do Moledo" of upgrading
this Association support infrastructures had suffered an over-budget slide which placed ALA in a financial
compromise, however with the Bonus of receiving land for the building of the new ALA Headquarters, the O.C.
demonstrated some patience and understanding in the delay of the full financial closure.
We initiated a negotiation process between the 2012 O.C. and the ALA directors.
The ALA directors closed all accounts related to OM 2012 except for the payments owed to the 2012 O.C., then a
Gentleman’s agreement was made, that this would be solved throughout the year of 2012.
The 2012 O.C. proposed to strengthen the O.C., adding new valuable members: Nuno Tavares (Stuntman), Luís Madeira
(Timber) e Rafael Domingues (Mano).
The O.C. brought to the table organizing the Event in Mafra, same athlete target of 800, imposing some things:
- To open a Bank account in ALA's name for this event alone, controlled by the O.C. and supervised by ALA.;
- Professional non-Airsoft support Staff;
- One year's work Expenses for each member of the O.C. calculated in 1000.00€ in the budget ;
- Catering enterprise foreign to the O.C.;
- Profit Margin of 0.00€ for the event, in the eventuality of a profit return this was to be directly invested in
accessories and other logistical assets for the 2014 event.
This proposal was refused, and given the thick and heavy atmosphere between the 2012 O.C and ALA directors, it
was decided to part ways.
Attention, the Oscar Mike Trade Mark being registered by ALA was expected, because this O.C. worked on and created
It for ALA and their Associates. This was what we compromised with.
Neste momento apenas 2 elementos da C.O. de 2012 receberam o valor devido.
As of NOW, only 2 members of the 2012 O.C. got paid what was owed.
We calmly and peacefully watched the development of this last year, this O.C. in the person of its Coordinator
collaborated with the person responsible with organizing Oscar Mike 2013, sharing some knowledge and contacts when
asked. However as you can understand this "divorce" process was difficult for all of us and we decided not to be
present at this year’s event.
We are beat with what happened, angry.
We don’t want to believe how this Brand was taken down like this.
For what this subject is concerned we do not wish to say anything else because we are foreign to this years
event. However, we appeal that ALA assumes a preponderant part and please don’t let the guilt unraveled
With our Best Regards,
